All in Wine

Late in the summer, I was in the Finger Lakes wine region for a very fun detox to retox exploration. I visited terrific wineries, crafting world class wine - and a distillery - on Seneca Lake. Between swirling and sipping, I squeezed in some SUPping and cycling to enjoy the area's natural beauty.
In January, I was in Altea, Spain spending a few fun days at Team Novo Nordisk's cycling training camp and exploring local winery & culinary specialties.
My jacket fluttered in the cool March breeze as I swooshed down and around the tight hairpin turn. Then feathered my bicycle brakes to slow speed, leaning into the next twisty curve. I snuck a glimpse at the rippling turquoise sea below, wedged between jagged limestone mountains sprouting from sparkly water. It was eye candy for the soul and one of the many gems hidden in Mallorca, Spain.
FOR those who have already spun and sipped their way through Bordeaux, Alsace and Napa, there are a growing number of bike tours in other wine regions. Some touring companies offer fully guided and supported multiday excursions arranging everything from upscale hotels to luggage transport to private tastings at wineries and host hotels. You can also hire local cycling guides to provide intimate glimpses of their home turfs, or in most areas, follow winery maps for a straightforward do-it-yourself exploration.
